Congratulations Steve Auslander on being awarded as a 2021-2022 Indiana University Jacobs Educator. Jacobs Educators are outstanding teachers from across the state of IN and the US who are at the cutting edge of integrating technology and teaching computer science to K-12 students. Mr. Auslander will serve as teacher expert on an educational board at IU which will continue to develop curriculum in the area of technology.
Congratulations Kristen Poindexter on being awarded the 2022 Cheryl Cowan Memorial Award for Innovative Elementary Science. This award is presented to an outstanding elementary science teacher who exhibits the passion for the innovative science teaching that exemplified Cheryl Cowan’s teaching career. The Cheryl Cowan Memorial Award is awarded annually by the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. Mrs. Poindexter is also serving as immediate past president of HAISTI.
Congratulations Nathan Hack on being awarded a $3000 STEM grant from the Indiana Sports Corp and Big Ten Conference. Each year, the Indiana Sports Corp and the Big Ten conference partner to provide ten Indiana teachers $3000 grants to use in their classrooms. Nathan Hack, 4th Grade Teacher at Allisonville applied, and was one of the ten teachers to receive this grant this year. Mr. Hack plans to use this grant to kickstart an after school Gator Makers Robotics Club. . The purpose of the Gator Makers program is to provide 4th and 5th grade students from varying backgrounds with hands-on, authentic, and collaborative experiences in computer science and engineering in order to combat the learning loss seen from the lack of authentic scientific exposure in the last two years. The grant will allow Gator Makers to begin the next club session with a multitude of Lego SPIKE Prime Robotics kits to engage in Novel Engineering, First Lego League Competitions, PBS Engineering for Good, and Lego STEM Labs. Mr. Hack received this grant in a ceremony on the field at the Big Ten Championship Game in Lucas Oil Stadium last month.
