AV Teacher Awarded by Mayor

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 10, 2014) – Allisonville Elementary 5th grade teacher, Sandra Brown was named 2014 Volunteer of the Year by Mayor Ballard recently at the 2014 Indianapolis Sister Cities Celebration.

Brown has been an active volunteer for more than three years in the Indianapolis Sister City organization, and contributes to three Sister City committees: Teacher & Student Outreach Committee, Campinas Brazil Committee and the Sister City Fest Committee.

“We are so very proud of Mrs. Brown and her work with Sister Cities,” said Dr. Nikki Woodson, Superintendent of Washington Township Schools. “Teaching children goes beyond the walls of the classroom. Teachers like Mrs. Brown demonstrate to students the importance of being contributing members to society and to the overall wellbeing of the community.”

Each year, Indianapolis Sister City programs host more than 40 events to provide cultural and educational initiatives, strengthen international partnerships and support business development.

“The future success of Indianapolis depends upon the relationships we build around the world,” said Mayor Ballard. “Indy is fortunate to have a great network of volunteers and organizations working to create an inviting community that welcomes people from other nations and cultures.”

Washington Township is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School district, delivering curriculum to every student through the IB framework.
